The government uses of these things in order to maintain control of the people of society. Unlike 1984, the government uses all these things to primarily keep people happy. First off, this society does not have morals or values or anything like that - the only expectation is that people live out their role in society. Things such as sex and games and taking soma is all a means of keeping people happy. While people are happy - they are satisfied. When people are satisfied, they do not ask questions, rebel, or get too caught up in thinking about the government and destabilizing this control. If everyone is constantly keeping themselves feeling good and happy, and ignorant to everything else in the world, then they will not want to leave this way of living. It is all about instant gratification. These sayings that Huxley includes in this society constantly remind people to serve their instant gratification. Instead of working towards something and fixing it, get a new one. If you are unhappy with this old sweater of yours, buy a new one. Instead of feeling lonely and feeling negative emotions when you sleep alone at night, just have sex every night - then you will never feel alone! These sayings constantly remind the people - to the point where these sayings are their morals for they have bbeen repeated in their head over and over again - but these sayings remind people to take soma - a gramme is better than a damn. to contribute in society - not be alone, buy new things. always keep yourself happy. if you are happy and instantly gratified, the government remains in control.
